Behind the scene of Sanremo

Non ha L'Età, image and exhibition design at Gallerie d'Italia Torino

The project created for the Gallerie D'Italia exhibition “Non ha l’età. Il Festival di Sanremo in bianco e nero 1951-1976” offers a fascinating journey through the memorable shots from the Archivio Publifoto Intesa San Paolo, capturing the essence of the renowned Italian song conetst, Festival di Sanremo.

With a total of 85 photographs featuring the protagonists of Italian music between 1951 and 1976, the years when the festival took place in the charming Casino di Sanremo before permanently moving to the Teatro Ariston, the exhibition takes visitors back to an era steeped in charm.

The images, which hold immense historical value, needed a visual setting that could seamlessly blend them into the vibrant music and entertainment atmosphere.

Hence, the concept emerged to craft a path through subtle yet meticulous interventions, ranging from the entrance lights to the exhibition logo embedded in a vinyl record, all the way to the red curtains evoking an imaginary stage.

The external setup captures the ambiance of the Casino square, while a corner of the press room has been recreated in collaboration with the Adi Design Museum. The record collection on display is courtesy of the Istituto Centrale per i beni sonori ed audiovisivi (ICBSA). Additionally, an interactive multimedia installation, resembling a slot machine game, allows visitors to play and relive the singers' performances on stage.

The exhibition is curated by Aldo Grasso with the media partnership of Italian broadcaster Rai tha provided all video and audio contributions Rai Teche.
